Hello small business owners, I’m Michael Maloney an intern for JC Sweet & Company that is very interested in social media marketing, all sorts of other forms of marketing, and web design. While digging for interesting topics to blog about I found 7 Social Media Tips that I thought would help small business strive when marketing on various social media platforms to promote their business.
Welcome Everybody But Market to a Specific Somebody
One of the most important social media tips is finding your target market. As a small business owner you may think you want all the business you can get, this isn’t necessarily true. Think about the ideal customer your business wants to attract and try to connect with them the best way possible. This is where marketing to a certain audience is important. Researching your target market will help you develop the best way to speak to your audience on a personal level. Your business isn’t marketing to your target market to create business. You are marketing to create a community, a group of people who are going to come back to your business for your presence and way you carry out your business, not just your product.
Deep V.S. Wide
As a small business owner you may keep on asking your self “How do I get more followers?” The true answer is, it takes time. One of the important social media tips is spending your own time reaching out to your community. There is no point in even having a social media for your business if you are not interacting with your customers personally. It isn’t enough that people like your business or service, it matters if people enjoy engaging with you and your company.
Social Media Tips For Building a Community
As mentioned before in previous social media tips, as a small business owner you want to build a “community”. This is one of the most important social media tips because building a community means building a following. A community will help you do your market research. Now that you have a product and a following, use social media to broadcast your products to your loyal community to get their reactions. Having a place on social media for your community to connect with each each other is also an important. Your community can help generate business ideas through interacting with other members in your businesses community.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook
Now that your business has a community, you should be following and serving up context based on your customer. Consistently share great like minded content that is for your community before asking for something in return. Your community should feel like they are betraying you if they don’t buy your product or service. Be smart and strategic by following the marketing calendar. For example if you’re business plans on launching something during the holidays in the winter time, engage with your community the months leading up to your product launching.
Social Media Tips on Giving Your Community Direction
Since you now have a strong community you have to give your community direction. Now of days people need to see a message about 17 times to get it stick in their head. This means that as a business owner you have to consistently pump the same content out to your community way more than just once to get them to notice. Try to produce the same call to action, but in different ways. Many people won’t even act when an offer or sale is presented infront of them so you need to make sure to inform and tell them to purchase your items.
Content is Key
The final tip is the content that makes up your social media. Make sure that everything on your social platforms makes sense towards your brand. A big part of this is finding what social media platform is right for your business. Take control and learn about what you don’t know so you can grow. Use the Internet to your businesses advantage. Also branch out and partner with other people that can do the stuff that you cannot. This helps builds a team and helps cross promotes your business.
