Mobile Responsive Design: the future of web design
Before viewing websites on many different devices became common, all websites displayed the same layout on all screens, no matter how large or small the screen was. With the explosion of devices used to access the internet these days, web design standards have moved away from that, and towards mobile responsive design.
Well, that’s a pretty fancy phrase. The basic description could be defined as:
Mobile Responsive Design: A method of website design that adapts dynamically and intelligently, displaying a different arrangement of the website’s layout based on the screen size, orientation, and type of device viewing it – ie. desktop, tablet, mobile, and so on.
So what does that mean for your website – and more importantly, your website visitors?
It means that the most relevant information to your visitor is always on top, no matter how large or small the screen viewing it is. It means that on a small screen your sidebar can dynamically move to the bottom so it won’t push aside your main content – or, even worse , extend off the side of the screen entirely. With mobile responsive design, your content will always be appropriately sized for the device it’s being viewed it on.
